Anxiety, Children and Meridian Tapping Techniques (MTT)

Anxiety, Children and Meridian Tapping Techniques (MTT) ©

Written by: Elaine M. Corona, MSW, LCSW

If your child experiences and suffers with anxiety, it is not only hard for them, but hard for you too.  Seeing pain in our children brings us pain too.  Anxiety disorders are fairly common during childhood, affecting approximately 1 out of every 8 children.  Developmentally appropriate anxiety usually has little or no effect on your child’s ability to function in daily life but higher levels may cause difficulty with school, friends, and family.

Anxiety is a reaction to a perceived danger or threat.  Children have both a lack of experience in life and an incomplete ability to reason logically.  Therefore, they are often unable to judge the likelihood of a frightening event and may perceive them as more dangerous than they actually are.

Some of the symptoms that are experienced and behaviors you may see with excessive anxiety are:

●   feelings of panic and fear and also phobias (e.g. fears of bugs, germs, and social situations; school phobia, test-anxiety)

●   compulsive behaviors / obsessive thoughts (e.g. excessive hand-washing, hair-pulling, compulsive counting, worrying and asking about the same thing over and over)

●   physical symptoms (cold or sweaty hands or feet, racing heart, sleep problems, stomachaches)

When your child’s anxiety starts to interfere with his daily functioning or is causing them distress, then it’s time to find a way to help them.  There are a number of strategies, techniques and therapies that may help your child.  Meridian Tapping Techniques (MTT), relaxation techniques, Mindfulness, Percussive Suggestion Technique (PSTEC), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), physical exercise and nutritional/homeopathic therapies are just some of them.

The technique that I would like to focus on is called the Meridian Tapping Technique or MTT. You may also hear MTT referred to as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).  All the Meridian Tapping Techniques involve putting pressure on acupuncture points (meridians) on our bodies while focusing on the disturbing emotion or thoughts.  Often, this releases blocked energy and decreases feelings of anxiety in just a short period of time.  “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. …. (Gary Craig). Meridian Tapping stimulates the body’s energy system, allowing painful emotions to be released.  “Tapping” works similarly to acupuncture, but without the needles!

Meridian Tapping is very easy to learn and simple to use which is why it is especially suited to children.  Once the child has been taught what the “tapping points” are, they are asked to rate the intensity of their feelings of anxiety (or anger or sadness, etc.).  Then they “tap” on the points while repeating a statement about the issue that is bothering them.  Afterwards, they rate their intensity level and more often than not, it has gone down and sometimes the worry or “bother” has even disappeared.  Many case examples demonstrate the incredible healing power of “tapping”.

To illustrate this, let me tell you about a child I worked with who had a severe case of hair- pulling (trichotillomania)…not only had she pulled all of her eyelashes out, but the hair from her eyebrows as well.  She was a beautiful girl, but was suffering.  She was doing something she did not want to do (pulling out her hair) but couldn’t stop herself.  She learned about “tapping” in therapy and was able to stop the pulling completely within a short period of time and now has the most beautiful eyelashes and eyebrows you could ask for.  But even more importantly, she is not suffering from the compulsion to pull or the fear of social rejection anymore.

There are many more examples of this wonderful technique and it is well worth further investigation.  If you would like to find out more information and view some videos about MTT you can go to my website at www.counselingbytheshore.com. I hope this information has been helpful and “happy tapping”!

I specialize in working with children and parents experiencing anxiety. My goal is to help you to decrease your anxiety and that of your child. I use innovative and creative therapies that will help to resolve distressing feelings either of you are experiencing. HYPNOSIS/HYPNOTHERAPY WORKS TO STOP PEOPLE FROM SMOKING AND MANY OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS: BY NEW JERSEY HOLISTIC DOCTOR

WHY HYPNOSIS/HYPNOTHERAPY WORKS TO STOP PEOPLE FROM SMOKING

The hypnosis or hypnotherapist is not a magician. He or she can’t simply dangle a pocket watch before you, talk softly and “put you under” to do their bidding. You can’t be made into an automaton, unable to wake up, nor can hypnotic suggestions be implanted into your mind to come bubbling to the surface hours later causing you to act contrary to the way you normally would. Simply put, your hypnosis/hypnotherapist and you work together to attempt to alter behavior you want altered.

Contrary to popular belief, the hypnotized client needs to be fully compliant for the hypnosis to work. One is not in a trance or unconscious when in hypnosis. The reason hypnosis can be successful in helping a person to change behaviors damaging to them, say to eat healthier or stop smoking, is that the firm suggestions a hypnotherapist makes during a session are in line with what the subject wants to accomplish. The person who desires to be a non-smoker for instance, welcomes the hypnotherapist’s verbal cues of wanting to breathe freer, have a healthier lifestyle, and break the addition to nicotine. They will slowly come to ‘unlearn’ habits, habits they fully want to change, as the hypnotherapist/hypnosis counselor suggests a different reality to their subconscious mind—that they are a non smoker—and over time the subconscious will slowly supersede the conscious mind in altering a person’s behavior.

The hypnosis counselor helps a patient along. He or she will find the triggers that cause people to smoke—a connection with your morning cup of coffee, social stimulant, a way to reduce stress, boredom—-and work with your unconscious mind to eliminate those cravings and prompts. Good hypnotherapists customize therapy to their patient’s triggers, tailor-making a solution to help their patient eliminate the cravings.

FROM THE WEST: Take Rte. 206 south to 15 south to Rte. 80east. You want exit 62A-62B (the sign says Saddle Brooke/Saddle River Rd/Garden State Parkway). After the slight curve of the exit, bear right at the fork to enter Garden State Parkway North (this is a partial toll road-in fact there is a one dollar toll just as you enter). After the toll, best get in your left lane, as the exit you want (the third one you will come to on the parkway) is on your left, #163. That road leads you directly to Rte. 17 N. Travel for about two more miles, look for the “Paramus Park” sign and take the exit here-this is Sears Drive-my building (#1) is the only building on the left (if you drive into the mall you’ve gone too far).

We all know about how bad tobacco products are for our health. Smoking is a habit that is very hard to quit, but there are proven methods that boost your chances of not only quitting smoking, but never smoking a cigarette again. One of the most effective ways in helping people to finally stop smoking forever is the alternative medicine method of hypnosis.

The American Heart Association (AHA) reports that 47.1 million people smoke in the United States of America. Of American men, 23.5% smoke, and of American women, 18.1% smoke. The statistics are even higher when looking at the worldwide population of people who smoke.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports there are 4000 harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke, 50 of which are directly related to causing cancer.

The International Labour Organization estimates that 200,000 people around the world die from second-hand smoke in the workplace. These statistics show that not only is it important for the health of an individual to stop smoking, but it is also important that they quit for the health of those around them.

Smoking is a strong mental and physical addiction. People have become accustomed to the feeling they get from smoking cigarettes. They get used to having cigarettes in their possession, and it takes up time throughout their day. Smokers become used to having an oral attachment with cigarettes. These are all physical components of their habit. The mental habit is the more difficult one to break. The real habit is mental and there is little someone can do physically to help break the mental addiction to cigarettes.

A researcher named Moses (1987) performed many studies on helping people stop smoking with hypnotherapy or hypnosis. The researcher concludes that smoking deals with habit, addiction, and willpower. All of these aspects are hard to treat, but hypnosis has consistently been shown to work in treating the habit, addiction, and one’s willpower to quit. The hypnosis therapies used in the research were to get smokers to change the way they viewed smoking and also to become aware of the harmful damage smoking was doing to their body and health. Hypnosis was used successfully to target the smokers’ habit, addiction, and willpower to effectively help them quit smoking. Results of the study showed that using hypnosis was very beneficial in helping people to stay away from smoking.

Smoking has many harmful effects on one’s physical and mental health and the health of those around smokers. Quitting smoking has so many wonderful benefits on one’s health and a positive financial impact. It is recommended for people to look at alternative methods of quitting smoking. Hypnosis generally requires one or a few sessions to help people quit smoking for the long term.

Stop Smoking Success Rates: Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) or Hypnosis

Cigarette smoking accounts for a large number of life-threatening medical problems that could easily be avoided. Nowadays, people are attempting to stop the nicotine habit permanently. But cigarette smoking can be a tough habit to break and the whole quitting process is hard. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a popular way to attempt to stop smoking, but there are other much more effective ways you could use in order to give up smoking.

NRT involves pharmaceutical drugs that include nicotine as their main ingredient. If you smoke more than ten cigarettes (half a pack) every day, you will need to start on the highest dose.

One of the many negative side effects about Nicotine Replacement Therapy is that you are still putting nicotine into your body, which is still bad for you. It would be much healthier for you to stop using nicotine period. The good news is that there are various tactics that don’t depend on nicotine in order to help you stop smoking.

On the top of the list of techniques you can utilize to stop smoking is hypnosis. Thousands of smokers have used hypnosis successfully to lead healthy lives and be freed from their nicotine habit, but it’s a strategy that has a number of skeptics.

Medical research and studies show that the success rate for quitting smoking is around 66% with hypnosis, as opposed to the 2 to 6% success rate with NRT. A multitude of articles have suggested that people who have used hypnosis were more likely to be ex-smokers 6 months following their sessions in comparison to individuals who used Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

Once you decide to use hypnosis to stop smoking, you make an appointment with a trained hypnosis counselor that has a tremendous amount of experience with regard to helping people stop their habit. Make sure you are comfortable with him or her; also be sure to research their education, experience and background.

When you are in a hypnotic state, you’re guided there by a hypnosis counselor. We say that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnosis counselor will then give you many techniques to stop with suggestions or affirmations that the subconscious mind will absorb. All these suggestions will allow you to break away from your past perceptions and behaviors that caused you to smoke and let your mind form new, healthy habits.

Many people stop smoking during their first hypnosis session, but you can possibly need up to three sessions. Soon your health will be revitalized and you will have a lot more energy. When compared to NRT, hypnosis is actually a more recommended technique for stopping smoking.

New Jersey Naturopath Discusses Holistic/Alternative Medicine for Children

Why Holistic Alternative Medicine or Naturopathy For Children?

There isn’t a parent alive who wouldn’t gladly trade places to ease the suffering, pain or sickness of their child. Childhood scrapes and broken bones, high fevers and viruses, stomach aches and ear infections are just part of growing up, but no parent wants to see their child suffer through any of it…especially if they can prevent the child’s ailment or lessen it by non-invasive natural means.

Holistic Naturopathic medicine adheres to these tenets of natural non-invasive treatments. First and foremost, the naturopath lives by the credo to do no harm in his approaches or the medicine he prescribes. He or she will not introduce unnecessary chemicals into a child’s delicate system; in fact naturopathic or alternative medicines are made mainly from plants and are one hundred percent natural. Naturopaths and holistic healers treat the entire body, getting to the root of a particular problem by not only treating to alleviate a symptom but to find why that symptom has occurred and how to maintain optimum health so your child doesn’t get sick, or at the very least, is sick less often and is back to good health quicker. It is a tailor-made cure, treating each child as the unique individual we know them to be.

Many more pediatricians are referring patients to naturopaths also known as holistic doctors for the treatments of their children simply because they know the naturopathic and alternative medicine approach works better with children. Naturopathic doctors have been known to see effective results treating children for ear infections, sinusitis, allergies, diarrhea, and even ADD/ADHD behavioral problems.

Mental and Physical Components of Stopping Smoking and How Hypnosis Helps

If you are trying to quit smoking cigarettes, you know how hard it is. However, it is possible, and half of all cigarette smokers will succeed in quitting smoking forever. Many smokers quit cigarettes by replacing them with different, positive patterns without having to experience nasty withdrawal symptoms. By far, the most scientifically effective, quickest method to stop smoking and achieve this great goal is hypnotherapy/hypnosis.

Stopping smoking is one of the most frequently practiced forms of hypnosis. It is often referenced as a highly effective tool to stop smoking along with other strategies such as nicotine patches and gums. It helps you end the smoking habit by eliminating or reducing cravings to smoke, keeping you focused on quitting, and promoting stress relief so you will not be tempted to smoke.

The smoking habit contains both psychological and physiological components. The physiological component is an addiction that your body needs nicotine to feel “right.” This part of quitting smoking is what causes the physical withdrawal symptoms that make it feel near impossible to quit. However, this is a short part in the overall process of quitting smoking, lasting only a few days. By the end of a few days, your body begins to feel normal and can function without nicotine. Based on ten years of experience and medical research, I believe that the physical need for nicotine makes up ten to twenty percent of the addiction to cigarette smoking.

The hardest part of quitting smoking is beating the psychological component, which are the mental and emotional aspects of smoking. I believe this accounts for eighty to ninety percent of the smoking habit. When you develop a smoking habit, you have an unconscious desire to smoke at certain times, such as in the morning. This is called a conditioned response.

Stopping smoking with the power of hypnosis helps eliminate the unconscious habits that cause you to desire cigarettes, thereby breaking the conditioned response to smoke. Hypnotherapy or hypnosis also helps you stay highly motivated to give up smoking by strengthening the wish to quit in the first place.

Smokers get stuck in the habit of lighting up and smoking when urges, desires or circumstances hit. This is why many people who try to quit smoking using nicotine patches or gums alone can’t. They may overcome the physical addiction, but they have no way to replace the mental habit of smoking cigarettes, which can become a source of stress relief for many who decide to use nicotine. Hypnotherapy or hypnosis techniques also serve as stress reducers. As a stress reduction and relaxation tool, hypnosis helps relieve anxiety and stress so you will not have the desire to smoke.

Eliminating tobacco benefits you and your body in many ways. Within days of quitting, damaged cells by smoking begin to heal, damaged lung tissues begins to regrow, and your sense of taste and smell improve. Within two to three weeks, lung function and circulation improve. Within one year, your risk of heart disease is cut down to half.  Within five to ten years, the risk of stroke is the same as a person who never picked up a cigarette. Your risk of heart disease and death from lung cancer and numerous other cancers have decreased.

Quitting smoking does not have to be a difficult process that makes so many smokers hesitant to even try. Hypnosis is a very simple, natural method of quitting that has one of the highest success rates recorded to date. Dr. Robert has taken hypnosis one step further and created the Banish Program. Quitting Smoking is Easy with Hi-Tech Hypnosis in NJ/NY

Mark Twain’s famous quote: “Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it hundreds of times” is unfortunately true for the many who have attempted to quit smoking. Failure rate for quitting far outweighs success.  In some cases people stop for years only to find themselves smoking again, with a bigger habit then they had before they stopped. For too many, smoking becomes a lifestyle, and while dangerous to one’s health, it’s all too impossible to stop. And while the media is littered with ads for gums, patches and even prescription drugs to help a smoker quit, nicotine is a powerful chemical with high addiction levels that make quitting very hard indeed.

One method for quitting that has seen a success rate as high as 66% is hypnosis.

Since our subconscious knows no difference between reality and imagination, if a person’s subconscious can be given an “imagined reality”—say where a person is a ‘non-smoker’—their subconscious mind will accept that as reality. Then as the hypnotherapist suggests this reality to the subconscious, a person’s actual behavior will begin to change. These changes do not happen overnight of course; often a patient needs repeated sessions for the subconscious alterations to stick, but over a short period of time, many patients find they actually can stop smoking.

Hypnosis can aid in reducing stress, often noted as one of the major reasons many smokers report that they smoke in the first place.  It can promote greater self esteem and positive motivations and bolster a desire for one to seek out healthier habits. Hypnotic word-plays, associations and suggestions, and guided imagery are the methods of hypnosis that deal directly with a person’s subconscious.  Hypnosis is perfect for those people who have the conviction to quit but are unable consciously to resist the temptation.

By far hypnosis has the highest success rates of helping people stop smoking, but comes along with its shares of problems. These problems with hypnosis have been corrected, so you can have a much higher success rate kicking your habit.

Hypnosis to Stop Smoking by New Jersey Quit Smoking Expert

Why Should You Stop Smoking?

Every smoker knows the health reasons he or she should quit smoking. The U.S. Surgeon General, American Medical Association and every other health agency relates the dangers of continuous cigarette smoking to shorter life span, increased rate of diseases including cancers, lung problems, heart disease and nervous system disorders.

So why do smokers cling to the cigarette demon, even though there is more information than ever before about the negative effects? Because smoking is one of the toughest habits to kick, and not just because of the physical addiction to nicotine. In fact, if nicotine addiction was the entire problem, the patch, gum and inhaler would have a 100% success rate, instead of a paltry 4%.

In fact, cigarette smoking is part physical, part habit, and part co-habit. Co-habit is the most difficult aspect.  Smokers light up frequently in conjunction with other activities, such as coffee breaks, after meals, in the car and during stressful events. All of these serve as triggers to smoking, and make it that much more difficult to stop.

The Power of Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

Breaking free from a smoking habit is one of the most frequent uses of hypnosis, and scientifically one of the areas of greatest success with hypnosis. Hypnosis is the most effective way to help you in breaking the chains between lighting up and non-smoking activities and habits.

More important is that hypnosis allows a person to change their self-perception and believe in a life without cigarettes. You may have said to yourself saying “Oh, it’s just so hard to quit,” or “I can’t quit, I need a cigarette just to relax.”

As long as you see yourself as a smoker, quitting will be about as hard as you think it will be. Hypnosis is a technique like no other to access the deepest images of yourself, and reshape them into the person you want to become. The person who has stopped smoking!
