This Thanksgiving Give Your Heart An Extra Helping Of Vegetables And Fish Dishes

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching, and what’s most commonly associated with this holiday is gratitude, but also heavy food consumption…specifically turkey and numerous side dishes, which many people tend to gloss over. But a new study encourages you to heap some extra helpings of vegetables on your plate this holiday season and throughout the year. Additionally, although seafood isn’t typically associated with Thanksgiving, it may be a prudent idea to see about starting a new tradition by adding it to your holiday menu this year.

So what makes these such desirable options for the health-conscious holiday feaster? A little compound called Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), which is linked to the consumption of fish, seafood and a vegetarian diet and which in high levels can lower hypertension-related heart disease symptoms.

Opting for healthier options like vegetables and seafood could help your heart this holiday season.

New studies done on rats discovered that even a low-dose of treatment with TMAO can reduce cardiac
fibrosis and heart failure.

TMAO levels in the blood also increase after eating TMAO-rich food like fish and vegetables. Also, the liver produces TMAO which is made by gut bacteria.

A diet rich in fish and vegetables is very good for cardiovascular treatment unlike red meat and egg-rich diets which increase the risk of cardiovascular problems. So, be sure to pass on some of the less nutritious side dishes this year and instead load up on mixed vegetables. Doing so could give you heart many reasons to be grateful all year-round.
