Switching Out Red Meat For Vegetables Could Help You Live Longer

A new study adds to the pile of evidence showing switching out red meat for a plant diet decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The new study made specific comparisons between diets which were high in red meat against diets which were high in other types of food.

Incorporating more vegetables in your diet in place of meat could lead to better health.

The study involved 1803 participants and researchers compared those who ate red meat with
those who ate foods such as chicken, fish, carbohydrates, or plant proteins such as legumes, soy, or nuts. Blood concentrations of cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoproteins, and blood pressure, risk factors for cardiovascular disease where also looked at as well.

Results showed while there were not many differences in total cholesterol, lipoproteins or blood pressure, red meat diets did have higher triglycerides levels. Plant diets were found to have lower levels of both total and LDL, bad cholesterol. The results of this study are said to be consistent with previous studies.
